The Saab 9-4X goes on sale in North America in May 2011, with sales in Europe and other global markets due to begin from August. Prices will be announced shortly before sales commence.

Body sculpted by Saab

The Saab 9-4X cuts a broad and powerful stance, with clean, uncluttered lines that echo Saab's Scandinavian design ethos. Its distinctive face, in common with the new 9-5 sedan, draws inspiration from the award-winning Aero X concept car, with a deep, three-port grille and 'ice-block'-effect lighting themes.

Disguised windshield and door pillars create Saab's signature wraparound-effect, the single glasshouse graphic emphasizing the brand's traditional 'cockpit' look. Other exterior Saab identifiers include the shaping of the headlamps, a 'hockey stick' waistline and strong C-pillars complemented by a wraparound-effect rear screen.

The roofline is visually lowered and extended by a rear spoiler integrated in to the tailgate. At the rear, the lighting carries forward a signature introduced by the new 9-5 sedan. An 'ice-block' bar lit by LEDs extends across the lower tailgate and wraps around the light units. Twin rhomboid-shaped exhaust tailpipes are also neatly integrated into the lower bumper molding.

Overall, the Saab 9-4X's bodywork is noticeably free from unnecessary decoration or trim. A dark protective appliqué is applied to the lower body, but there are no wheel-arch claddings or protective body panels.

Entry-level variants are fitted with 18-inch, six-spoke alloy wheels and Aero models are distinguished by 20-inch, nine-spoke 'turbine' alloy wheels, as well as a black mesh front grille.

Volvo has confirmed that the introduction of a new 2012 V60 Plug-in Hybrid in March this year at the Geneva Motor Show.

This is not the first time we saw-in-hybrid plug Volvo, Volvo has revealed details of the system have. The system in the production PHEV V60 is a development of the Volvo system began developing in conjunction with the Swedish utility Vattenfall and showed in 2009 a V70 wagon.

“This second generation hybrid is the perfect choice for uncompromising customer that wants a car packed with a low carbon dioxide emissions by driving pleasure,” Jacoby said in a prepared statement.

Volvo and Vattenfall system, called Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD), an electric motor used to drive the rear – in this case one that produces 70 horsepower. The electric motor is powered by a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery, which makes the car drive up to 30 miles on electricity alone with electricity. Once the battery is a 215-hp, 2.4-liter turbodiesel I-5 is coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission kicks in the front wheels. According to Volvo V60 which gets about 124 mpg PHEV on the European combined cycle.

While we are sure that we do not always non-hybrid-V60 can be seen this side of the pond, we can finally, the hybrid system. Jacoby played like a U.S. offer and a Volvo spokesman, confirmed that such a discussion, but nothing confirmed. The spokesman also confirmed the suspicion that if the V60 PHEV has made its way to the United States, it should not be a diesel engine. The availability of a diesel would be off on U.S. emissions standards.

It may take some time before any hard information on the V60 comes PHEV U.S. availability, but we will be more than the diesel-electric hybrid for Europe at the Geneva Motor Show in March bound to learn. The car is to go on sale in 2012.

The Lexus CT 200h Hybrid will make its North American debut at the New York auto show on March 31. The CT 200h evolved from the LF-Ch concept, an extravagantly styled, gold-painted hybrid hatchback.

As we've reported, the CT 200h pairs a 1.8-liter I-4 with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive system. The CT 200h can run on electricity alone for up to 1.2 miles -- as long as you keep speeds below 28 mph. Its CVT transmission offers four drive modes: EV, ECO, Normal, or Sport. The chassis employs a MacPherson strut up front and a double wishbone setup out back. The rear suspension uses a lightweight trailing arm, with the coil springs and shock absorbers positioned separately to reduce intrusion into the loadspace floor.

As a premium hatchback, the CT 200h is unabashedly European, although Lexus says it will be available globally. In the U.S., the hatchback will be the fifth hybrid in the Lexus line, slotting next to the recent HS 250h. Be sure to stay tuned to our live New York auto show coverage March 31 and April 1.
